Privacy policy

PriceNow is built to work without knowing who you are. This policy explains what we do collect, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. It is written to meet the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles.

1. Who we are

PriceNow (pricenow.co.nz) is a price comparison website operated in New Zealand. For anything in this policy, contact privacy@pricenow.co.nz.

2. You don't need an account

There is no sign-up on PriceNow. You can search, compare and click through to retailers without giving us any personal information at all.

3. What we collect

Information stored on your device, not by us

Your watchlist, your compare selection and your light/dark preference are saved in your browser's local storage under the keys pc_watch, pc_compare and pc_theme. This data never leaves your device, and clearing your browser data clears it.

Information you send us

If you email us — a wrong price, a question, a retailer enquiry — we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it to answer you and keep a record of the correspondence.

Information collected automatically

Like any website, our servers and hosting provider log technical request data: IP address, browser user agent, the page requested, and a timestamp. We use this for security, debugging and aggregate traffic measurement. If we use analytics, we configure it to avoid tracking individuals across sites, and we do not sell or share it for advertising.

If you set a price alert with an email address, we store that address solely to send you that alert, and you can unsubscribe from any alert email.

4. What we don't do

• We don't sell your personal information — to retailers, advertisers or anyone else.
• We don't build advertising profiles about you.
• We don't ask for payment details; you always buy from the retailer, not from us.

5. Cookies and similar technologies

PriceNow does not require advertising or tracking cookies to function. We use browser local storage for the preferences described above. Retailers you click through to, and any embedded third-party services, set their own cookies under their own policies — we can't control those, so check the policy of the site you land on.

6. Sharing

We share personal information only where we need to and only as far as necessary:

• Service providers who host our site, send our email, or provide analytics, bound to protect it;
• Where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of people or the service;
• With your consent.

Some providers store data outside New Zealand. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure comparable safeguards apply, as required by principle 12 of the Privacy Act 2020.

7. How long we keep it

Email correspondence is kept while it's useful for support and record-keeping, then deleted. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. Alert subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or the alert is removed.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and we apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to the limited information we hold. No system is perfect; if a privacy breach ever caused serious harm we would notify affected people and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as the Act requires.

9. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask for access to the personal information we hold about you and ask for it to be corrected. Email privacy@pricenow.co.nzand we'll respond within 20 working days. If you're not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

10. Children

PriceNow is a general-audience shopping tool and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be highlighted on the site.
